ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) turns 25 this year! On April 25, 2012, activists from ACT UP, in conjunction with the Occupy Wall St. movement and several other groups, held a rally in front of NYC’s City Hall. 19 people were arrested for acts of civil disobedience. The protesters marched through the financial district, demanding the passage of a “Robin Hood” Tax on speculative financial transactions, the proceeds of which would be used to fund AIDS research and services for those infected with HIV. The march ended in front of Manhattan’s historic Trinity Church, where a second, shorter rally was held. This video documents the day’s actions.
